Workshop Assignment: Community Partnerships

Hello,

For my workshop assignment, I created a community partnership proposal for my admin’s approval. The proposal outlines in-class workshops and field trips with outside educational institutions.

Community partnerships matter because experiential learning helps make conceptual learning more concrete. Practicing with professionals reinforces learning.

My first implementation step is admin approval.

I will need funding support to cover the cost of field trips.

Community partnerships are such a smart angle for this — you’re right that experiential learning tends to cement the concepts in a way classroom time alone can’t. Getting kids in front of working professionals also does wonders for helping them picture themselves in those careers down the road.

A few thoughts as you head into admin approval and funding conversations:

  • When making the pitch, it can help to lead with student outcomes (career exposure, real-world context for what they’re learning) and then tie the workshops/field trips back to specific standards or curriculum goals your admin already cares about.
  • For funding, it’s worth exploring whether local STEM-focused grants, education foundations, or business/industry partners in your area might co-sponsor field trips — sometimes the partner organizations themselves are willing to host at no cost, which lowers the ask.
  • Building in a simple way to document impact (student reflections, photos, short write-ups) early on will make future funding requests and admin renewals much easier.

Sounds like a solid plan — hope admin gives it a green light!
