Check in with your students any day of the year with a press of a button. This starter-level guide walks students through programming a CodeX or CodeBot to serve as a personal ‘status updater’ for the classroom. Students assign colors (CodeX) or LED patterns (CodeBot) to different moods or academic signals, such as “I’ve got it!” or “I need help!” which they can then communicate to their teacher with a quick, silent button press. No devices? Students can run the CodeBot version on the free virtual CodeBot, right in a web browser. It’s an engaging project that introduces basic coding while empowering students to express themselves.

Get the lesson plans, slides, and code on the [Check-In Anytime Blog](https://firialabs.com/blogs/lab-reports/blog-2025-09-09-september-checkin), and join the conversation here in the Code Collective to tell us how your students did!
